The Brief:
The idea of the brief was that we were to create our own
multicamera show based on music videos and mainly the world of mainstream pop
for teenagers from 14-21. Whilst doing this we had to base it on a brief that
we were all given, whixh just included many elements that we all had to ensure
that we followed.
The target audience is one thing that had to stay the same, throughout
all of our shows. Since it was quite a young audience range it was imperitiev
that we had to ensure that somehow we kept the show appealing for those in the age range given. Doing this in mine
personally, this just meant that the features that I kept in the show had to be
suitable for this age range, since the guests wouldn’t be a proble, as they
would all be suited to the audience as they were all easy to be mainstream
therefore they were already suitable. This actually worked with ours because
the games and the features that we had in the show workef very well in link
with the target audience that it needed to appeal to.
The multicamera element
was important to the show – the task was not ot use one camera byut to use a
multicamera fprmat that we all had tto join with – therefore this is what we
ahd to do within filiming the show. This meant we had to think of different
shots and whatnot to make sure that it was kept interesting at that the show
kept flowing calmly. This, we obviously did do, therefore we did well to meet
this area of the brief.
The production team overall worked amazingly together. We
were all very anxious to work together because we knew that even though we had
to all work together, there was still an element of independence and reliability
to each other. If one of us had forgotten to do our job, the whole programme
could have easily crumbled and this would have clearly effected all of us in
some way. Therefore when we were workling together, if any of us didn’t
understand our roles, the rest of us were more than happy to give them ideas,
especially Jasmeet, the director, was extremely helpful. The end product was
incredible to film and we were quite proud of ourselves watching it back, so it
was worked out really well.
Self Evaluation:
I was the presenter. As I stated in a previous blog post,
the presenter is responsible for both leading, introducing and keeping the
audience interested in the show. They are used particularly to engage the
audience, and they would always be needed if there were anything to go wrong
whislt filming as without them, the whole show could fall apart just like many
other multicamera roles. I was expected to create my own script and learn it,
if I needed any prompting I would have ot create my own cue cards and I was expected
to carry on presenting, in the moment, no matter what was happening behind the
camera that could potentially distract us. I was expected to have a clear voice
when presenting at all time, and I was expected to research and have a
sufficient knowledge on the areas that I was talking about, even if was
something as little as the newest song of this week.
In terms of always entertaining people the audience, I think
I did that quite well. There are many different areas of the show where I made little
comments and jokes just to make the show more itnerestng for the viewer to
watch. Without these, the show may have looked a little too uncomfortable and
probably wouldn’t fit as well. For example when I am reading out the tweets to
Taylor and the first tweet asks a rumour about her and Drake and she says no, I
had decided to add a
In terms of cue cards and scripts, writing the scripts took
some time to actually draft and then change, even when we had created a firm,
final script, somehow it was changed again when it was written in the master
script and a lot of this happened without my co presenter and I even knowing –
therefore when the day of the live day came about, we had to create our own cue
cards in order to place some of the newer elements of the scripts in small
notes. However, to make sure this didn’t look tacky we actually printed our
logo on the back of the cards and this made it look so much more professional
and actuall y worked really well.
There were many areas of the show when I did have to have my
own knowledge in, usch as the top songs of that week and rthe lyric game that
we did at the end. This consisted of us having to research these beforehand so
that we already looked prepared and knowledged in what we were doing, which
polished off the show well ad the presenter, out of everyone, would be experienced
to be the most experienced in the world of music on a music chat show.
In terms of improvements, I think that there should have
been a little more interaction between the two presenters. The chemistry was
good, however I think it really could’ve been stronger. Also, one of the main reasons
that we didn’t appear to have a lot of inbetween chat is because the show as
also focussed on the guests quite a lot, so the only time we had that we weren’t
playing a vt or doing an interview was the top 5 tracks and this was timed so
we couldn’t take time doing it.
I almost wish that I hadn’t
have cue cards. Even thought the cue cards visually were quite pleasing to the
eye, I do believe that if I used my hands more which could onlyn be done if Iq had put the cards down, of which I
didn’t. A lot of the time, when presenters are using their hands as they speak
to express themselves a little bit more and this heavily engages the audience
especially with the age that they are, it is important to keep them inetersed
in the show and in the presenter.
Finally I think that the presenters should’ve had even more
interaction with the guests. Even though the presenters interacted with the
guests well, I think if we made a few mpore jokes between ourselves on camera
that it would have been less intimiateding and it could work well on camera,
which I would find calming also for us when the cameras were showing.
In the production, especially at the beginning, when we were
rehearsing us walking down the hallway it took a long time for us to get the
shots correct. This is ebcuase the
camera was being moved alongside our footsteps but obviously couldn’t go back
into the actual classroom or it would actyally come off the tracks. If we
walked too quickly, the camera wouold shake as it was being pulled back and
therefore look very unprofessional. However if we walked too slowly the camera
could also begin to shake aws it was picking up a lot of movement since it wasn’t
bbeing moved as much, therefore looking
unproffessionl. To overcome this, however, we tested out the speed that we
walked and the words that we were to speak, which means that we had to work
more with the camera operator and once we got a final shot, it was easier to
film straight away. We had to mark ourselves, we started with a particular
poster in the school hall each and every time, and we timed ourselves to end up
at a different poster whenw e had finished. If by a certain word we hadn’t actually
reached the poster yet, we were going to slowly. If by the pster we had already
said the word from beore, we had gone too quickly. Therefore this is an
effectibve way of how we marked ourselves and it worked very well.
Whilst doing this production, I had personally gained quite
a few skills that I was aiming to build on originally.

The main skill as teamwork. This is one that I
had learnt purely from production that basically meant I had to learn to work
in such a big group and that we had to learn, within thse skills, how to always
communicate with people bevause latch of communication could be highly
dangerous.

Improvisation in awkward situations. Without
this, the show cpupld have crumbled. There weren’t any awkward situations in
the actual last show, however in the first runthrough and a few after that,
there were some aspects were improvisation as essential

Payinh a high amount of attention is also
important. When I was sitting there I had to watch which camera we were on all
the time, and if we didn’t do this it would look incredibly sloppy and
therefore had to ensure that this happened.

Time management was an important skills. There
were many deadlines for many different thigs and dociments that needed to be in
and therefore, whilst working with other people I had ot make sure that I
managed my time properly.

Finally, having an inviting persona. Me
personally, I was quite shy for a large amount of time in my life, however
doing this task had definitely helped me with this problem. Therefore I am now
more confident in myself because whilst being filemd live to a specific target
audience and having to help the guests to constantly feel comfortable, I really
had no other choice but to come out of my shell.
Section 3: Analysis
Practically, the show flowed very
nicely. We didn’t only film in one area of the set, we had many different areas
that we had to film in and therefore the cameras had to make sure that they
caught us all in their shots without missing anything. For example there were
many times that I was standing in different areas, for example when I was
reading out the tweets in front of the board, the cameras had to cover this and
then cover Christina’s reaction to the tweets quite quickly and sharply, with a
risk of it not working. In terms of location, there were four main locations
that the filming took place in. The first was the hallway, which the camera had
to follow the presenters with, backwards. This gave a brilliant effect and
looked impressive. Then there was the main set of The Beat, which I think was
mainly used for the wide shot and for the reaction shots. This is when we had
to ensure that the right cameras were used at the riigihjt time s. One
particular problem is that the Game Board for ‘Guess The Nose’ was so close to
the set, even though that perhaps shows that it is easy to get to from where I
sat with Taylor, it wasn’t, in fact it was quite difficult to get there and for
the camera’s to be ready afterwards and beforehand. This was a location issue
however we had sorted it out by the final take.
Aesthetically the
show as pleasing. We had a variety of shots and the same shot was never shown
for too long, as to maintain the viewers interest. For example when I was reading
the tweets at the board, it was just me and the tweets on the screen and this
could somewhat imply how it was just me and the audience in a personal
interaction and it worked well. The camera then cut to Christina which showed
her reaction to these tweets which would have made the audience feel more
connected to her. The final shot is of both the presenters and both of the
guests waving good bye which could show the viwewer the relatinswhip between both
fo the presenters and the viewer and then both of the guests and the viewer.
They would feel a l;ot more included which could then be a nice end to the show
and could mean that it was a final shot that meant a lot.
